The Bayou Mermaid is a surreal landscape painting that explores the boundary between the visible and invisible worlds. At the center of the composition, a translucent mermaid figure rests between two realms—half submerged in the water and half emerging into the open air. Her transparent form blends with the surrounding landscape, suggesting a spirit-like presence caught between reality and imagination, the conscious and the unknown. Originally commissioned as a personal artwork, The Bayou Mermaid carries an unusual story of its own. Created for a client whose passion was diving, he ultimately never claimed the finished piece and the painting became an unexpected symbol of absence, unfinished journeys, and the unpredictabilty of life. The client´s story and the reason he never collected the work is also peculiar: upon completion of the work, the client stole a large sum of money and was said to have fled to Belize.
